WHO WE ARE

The word Kuhumelela comes from the Tshonga (Shangaan) African language and it means progressing, moving forward. Kuhumelela is a young, fresh and dynamic company that was started in May 2010 with the intent to assist with the transformation of the accounting industry. We see ourselves as a firm that is progressing and moving forward in the accounting and corporate world.

Lapoorta sisters - 1a


The company is owned by the Lapoorta sisters.

Althea - 2a
Althea Lapoorta

  • Althea Lapoorta is a qualified black female Chartered Acountant (CA)SA.
  • She passed matric (grade 12) with a distinction and both parts of the board exams on her first attempt (CA)
  • Earned a bursary from Sizwe Ntsaluba VSP to study her B Comm Accounting and Certificate of Theory in accounting (CTA) at the University of Stellenbosch
  • She worked at Sizwe Ntsaluba VSP for 4 years, was seconded to the USA for 4 months and worked at Thompson, Cobb, Bazilio and Associates (TCBA).
  • Joined Chevron as supervising auditor and completed audits in Angola, Kenya, Namibia, Nigeria, Mauritius, Zambia, South Africa and the United States.
  • She then started Kuhumelela in May 2010

Susan - 2a
Susan Lapoorta

  • Susan Lapoorta qualified as a black female Chartered Acountant (CA)SA in 2007.
  • She passed matric (grade 12) with a distinction and both parts of the board exams
  • She earned a bursary from Sizwe Ntsaluba VSP to study her B Comm Accounting and Certificate of Theory in accounting (CTA) at the University of Stellenbosch
  • She worked at Sizwe Ntsaluba VSP for 3 years and then joined Ernst & Young in Jersey (Channel Islands)
  • She then joined JP Morgan in Bermuda for approximately 3 years where she was an Assistant Vice President Fund Accounting Analyst. JP Morgan provided administration services to various private equity clients. Her portfolio included clients located in Argentina, Bermuda, Mexico, Singapore, United Kingdom and United States of America with the total capital value of the funds ranging from $200 million to $1billion.
  • She then joined Kuhumelela in April 2011.
